AGP_INFO V.1.0.1 A traditional warning: Take note that I don't bear any responsibility for the consequences the utilization of the following program may lead to and/or for any actions you may carry out excited by this text. Q: Hey! What is this? A: Well, this is an utility intended for configuring registers of 440BX and 440ZX chipsets (or AGPsets as Intel calls them). It works in Widows'95 and up. Q: And is this program of any practical use? A: Sure. It allows your mainboard / memory to achieve its top speed by means of changing the settings, which are absolutely or partly inaccessible through BIOS Setup. However, those of you who are well aware of Intel's specifications and know the engineering are likely to apply this utility in a broader way. Q: How far can it be overclocked? A: After a certain memory settings correction it provides a 2 fps pure gain in Quake2 Crusher demo (which makes about 9% for my hardware). If you work harder you may manage to achieve better results. Q: Sounds not bad. But is there any risk, any unpleasant outcome? A: If you overdo it or if you simply can't make out what's going on, the whole thing will crash down right away or a little bit later. Q: Is there anything I should remember concerning the features of this utility? A: According to the manual the 440ZX chipset doesn't support ECC. That is why you should bear it in mind when trying to change the ECC registers settings. Q: I made all the necessary settings and saved them on the disk clicking a Save To Disk button. Is there any way to enable these settings every time when Windows is starting? A: Yes, sure. You should add a -set key to the starting line in the StartUp Folder (AGP_INFO.EXE -set). Moreover, the directory containing AGP_INFO.EXE must also contain another file - AGP_INFO.DMP - created by a Save To Disk button. At default it appears there. Q: And if I have an absolutely different chipset? A: Well, since the compatibility check is just a formality you may either get a warning that a system is unable to work on your chipset or not. And as a result I definitely cannot guarantee the proper work of the utility. Q: And if I'm not that great at different terms and other complicated notions? A: All I can recommend in this case is to sit down to books and to enrich your knowledge on Intel chipsets and mainboards engineering. Q: Why are some menu items unavailable? A: This occurs if they are not supported by this particular chipset revision or are designed as unchangeable. Q: Some of the items operate with 100MHz frequency and my jumpers are set to 112MHz! A: If you consult the Intel's specs you'll find out that they suggest only 66 and 100MHz. However, nothing prevents your chipset from working at other frequencies as well. Regard these menu items as if there were not 100MHz but 112 (options: 103, 125, etc.). Q: Is there any software for changing FSB frequency and clock multiplier? A: Yes, there is but doing it by setting the jumpers seems more reliable. :) Besides, the initial aim was to find a way for changing those settings, which remain inaccessible through jumpers and BIOS Setup.
