Zoom 14.4 Voice Modem With Sound Blaster Cards
Problem:
When installing a Sound Blaster into a system with a Zoom Voice modem the
following conditions may occur:
- The Zoom modem voice mail feature will not work
- Windows sounds are produced from the PC speaker instead of through the
Sound Blaster
- Windows sounds are heard through the telephone instead of through the
Sound Blaster
Solution:
The Zoom Voice modem software inserts lines in both the WIN.INI and SYSTEM.INI
which may conflict with the Sound Blaster. The sound card should function
normally in DOS.
To rectify your problem, carry out the procedures below:
- Run the Sound Blaster DIAGNOSE program in DOS to ensure that there is not
a hardware conflict.
- Remark out or remove the RHSIWAV.DRV driver located on the
"load=" line in the WIN.INI.
- Remark out or remove "wave=RHSIWAV.DRV" located in the [Drivers]
section of the SYSTEM.INI.
The Sound Blaster and Zoom Voice modem should function correctly after
restarting Windows.
