Paul Fishwick
Dr. Fishwick is a professor of computer science at the University of Florida. His music can be classified as "computer music" with a style similar to that found in genres such as space, ambient, newage, and electronic. He likes the combination of a sample-based synth and an analog synth, which delivers a kind of hybrid sound. For the analog sound, he uses the digitally based Nord Lead, and for the sampling, he uses a Sound Blaster 32 with 8MB of memory plus Emu 2.0 SoundFonts.
We are at the start of a revolution in music, mainly due to the computer and its relation to music, but also due to the MIDI standard which is really all about "control".
With the right technology now at his disposal, he find himself willingly relearning scales and music notation on the side. He is thirsty to learn more about music theory. But it is important to see the causal relation : He is having fun learning music theory, scales and orchestration because he now has a way to create pleasing music quickly. What a great way to learn!
