Rossum, a pioneer in the audio industry, is also known as the "founding
father of wave-table synthesis" and holds numerous patents in the area of
digital audio synthesis. In 1972, Rossum founded E-mu Systemsİ, which
quickly became the leading developer of innovative digital audio products for
the musical instrument and computer controlled sound markets. At E-mu,
Rossum designed many of the company's proprietary VLSI chips and
introduced the industry's first cost effective digital sampling instrument, the
E-mu Emulatorİ. E-mu's current line of digital sample players and
synthesisers - the Proteusİ line - has revolutionised the music industry. They
are used extensively worldwide by music professionals and hobbyists alike,
and can be heard in a diverse range of music recording, film video and
performance environments.
"Dave Rossum is highly regarded as an industry luminary among his peers,"
said John Chowning, professor emeritus of music at Stanford University. "In
the same way he defined and popularised digital sampling technology in the
70's, Dave continues to be a powerful force in the evolution of sound
synthesis and audio applications."
In 1993, E-mu was acquired by Creative where Rossum served as vice
president of E-mu and vice president of technology of the joint Creative/E-
mu Technology Centre. With nearly 25 years experience in the audio high
tech industry, Rossum will develop technical strategies for Creative's
multimedia and communication lines including the company's Sound
Blasterİ audio technology.
"Dave Rossum is an exceptional talent in the industry. His unparalleled
expertise in the area of audio synthesis and VLSI chip design along with his
extensive knowledge of Creative, make him an ideal addition to our executive
management team ," said W.H. Sim, chairman and CEO of Creative
Technology. "His technical prowess, proven leadership skills and passion for
research and development will have a profound positive impact as Creative
continues to grow and introduce new technologies in the multimedia
industry."
