CALENDAR OF EVENTS FROM 1981 TO 1992
- Creative establishes its first Chinese Software Centre
in Singapore to provide better customer support for Creative's
Chinese software products.
- Wave Blaster, an add-on daughter board that complements
Sound Blaster 16 series of audio cards, is introduced. Based on
E-mu Systems' digital wave synthesis technology, Wave Blaster
offers the highest quality synthesized music and sound effects
available to the PC environment.
- Creative announces that Sound Blaster will support Apple
Computer's cross-platform multimedia software,
QuickTime for Windows
which will include drivers for Sound Blaster.
- Creative announces the formation of a joint venture in Beijing,
China. The company, Beijing Chuang Tong Multimedia Computer
Ltd., is set up to develop and market Creative's family of
sound, video and multimedia products.
- Creative Technology Ltd announces its initial public
offering of 4,800,000 Ordinary Shares priced at US$12.00 per share.
The stock is traded on the NASDAQ National Market under the symbol
CREAf.
- At PC EXPO, New York, Creative premieres the Sound Blaster
16, a CD-quality 16-bit member of the Sound Blaster family
offering 16-bit stereo sampling at a competitive market price.
- Creative launches Video Blaster a high quality,
low cost system for display editing and frame-capture of full-motion
video on a standard VGA monitor. The product establishes an affordable
new price point for bringing full-motion video to the PC.
- Creative launches Sound Blaster Multimedia Upgrade
Kit that bundles Sound Blaster Pro, CD-ROM drive, a MIDI kit
and software to upgrade 386 and above PCs to comply with the Multimedia
PC Level 1 standard.
- To further expand the OEM market in the Asia region, Creative
establishes Avidtek Co., Ltd., a subsidiary located in
Taipei, Taiwan.
- Creative wins local government tender from the Ministry of
Education in Singapore to supply Views, Creative's Chinese
word processor/desktop publishing software, to its primary and
secondary schools.
- Sound Blaster Pro is introduced and later, adopted
as the PC stereo sound standard for the Multimedia PC.
- Sound Blaster becomes the number one selling add-on
board for the PC market and tops the "hot list"
of Ingram-Micro and Merisel, the two largest US software/hardware
distributors.
- Creative introduces Sound Blaster®, a PC sound
card featuring 11-voice FM synthesizer with text-to-speech, digitized
voice input/output, MIDI/joystick port and bundled software.
- Creative launches PJS, an artificial intelligence-based
Chinese operating system, and Views, the complementary
word processor and desktop publisher with a built-in library of
over 70,000 characters and scalable font technology.
- Tandy, USA, orders a record-breaking number of Game
Blasters for its 8,000 nation-wide Radio Shack stores, paving
the way for Creative's future development in the US.
- Game Blaster, a full stereo sound board for the PC,
is launched.
- Creative Labs, Inc., is founded in South San Francisco.
- Sim Wong Hoo, Creative Technology's founder, establishes business
in San Francisco, USA, and markets the Creative Music System.
- Creative Music System (C/MS), a 12-voice stereo music
synthesizer card, is introduced with a variety of music software
to support the card: C/MS Composer, C/MS Intelligent
Organ and C/MS Multimedia Presenter.
- CUBIC CT, a multilingual, multimedia PC, is introduced
into the Singapore marketplace after only 6 months of design and
development.
- Creative introduces CUBIC 99, the talking computer
which can "talk" in both English and Chinese; and Cubic
Phone Sitter, an add-on telephone/answering device software/hardware
enhancement to Cubic 99.
- Creative Technology is founded in Singapore by Sim
Wong Hoo.
