Windows NT 3.5/3.51 Does Not Recognized CD-ROM Attached To A Sound Blaster 16 IDE Card
Problem:
When installing Windows NT 3.5/3.51 on a system with Sound Blaster 16 IDE
card, the CD-ROM is not recognized.
Cause:
Windows NT only supports primary and secondary IDE port. By default, the IDE
port on the Sound Blaster 15 card is set to third IDE port which is not
supported by Windows NT.
Solution:
To solve this problem you can try out the procedure below:-
- Attach the CD-ROM to one of the existing IDE Ports on your system.
- If there is only a single IDE port on the system, you can configure
the Sound Blaster IDE port as the secondary IDE port using the jumper
settings documented in the manual that comes with the card.
Note: The CD-ROM must be configured as MASTER if it is alone on the channel
and SLAVE if it is on the same channel as the harddisk.
