EXPERIENCING SOUNDFONTS ON YOUR AWE32
You probably bought the Sound Blaster AWE32 because it has many cool features
which other sound cards do not offer. Here's one of them: SoundFonts!
With SoundFonts, you can play a MIDI file that produces music and even sound
effects not found in General MIDI or GS. What this means is that you can
experience MIDI music that uses exotic sound effects or even traditional
instruments. Or how about listening to a MIDI file that has voice incorporated
into it?
Here's how you can play a MIDI file that uses SoundFonts:
- Ensure that the MIDI file supports SoundFonts. Most composers will indicate
this.
- MIDI files that support SoundFonts will require you to load the SoundFont
bank into the AWE32 control panel.
- Find out into which user bank you will need to load the SoundFont bank.
Most MIDI files that support SoundFont banks usually require you to load
them into User Bank 1.
If you are using Windows 3.1:
- Launch the AWE32 Control Panel found in the Sound Blaster AWE32 program group.
- Go to the section marked USER BANK and choose the bank
which you want. (If the directory menu on the right of the panel does not
show up, click on either the up or down selector in the USER
BANK to call up the directory menu.
- Choose the SoundFont bank that you want to load by first clicking on the
SET DIR... button.
- When you have found the SoundFont bank you want to use, double click on it.
- Next, call out your Ensemble Midi player from your Sound Blaster AWE32
program group (or Media Player from the Accessories program group) and
play the Midi file that is related to the SoundFont file.
If you are using Windows 95:
- Launch the AWE32 Control Panel found in the Sound Blaster AWE32 program
group.
- Choose the current state drop-down list. Select a user bank from the
drop-down list.
- Type the path of the SoundFont bank in the configured path edit box, or click
Browse... and locate the SoundFont bank that way.
- Choose apply to set changes.
- Next, call out your Ensemble Midi player from your Sound Blaster AWE32
program group and play the Midi file that is related to the SoundFont file.
