E-MU SYSTEMS' 3D POSITIONAL AUDIO

The joint Creative Labs - E-mu Systems® Technology Center is proud to announce E-mu Systems' 3D Positional Audio. This spatialization technology allows developers to take greater advantage of EMU8000 equipped sound cards such as Sound Blaster AWE32. What makes this type of 3D processing different from what stand-alone 3D boxes can deliver is the ability for developers to actually place the sound source at a particular point in a three dimensional space by defining the appropriate X, Y, and Z coordinates. In addition to being able to place the sound source, the position of the listener (the person playing the game) can also be defined in the same manner. At this point, both the sound source and the listener can be moved with complete independence.

The strength of the system lies in the EMU8000; as this very powerful synthesizer chip is handling all of the calculations, developers now can add ten independently spatialized audio events to their existing sonic arsenal without a substantial processor hit. Think about it... maybe you're already using upwards of thirty channels of digital mixing and CD audio to assault the listener during game play, why not grab them by the collar and start spinning sound effects all around their heads while you're at it?

In addition to Windows 95 and DOS APIs from Creative Labs, developers will also find full support within S.O.S. from Human Machine Interfaces and MSS from RADD Software.
