"The ability to conference with multiple people and share applications and files over the Internet is becoming increasingly important," said Barry Raskin, director of marketing for ShareVision products at Creative Labs. "Microsoft NetMeeting will rapidly make this a mainstream application. The fact that it is based on the T.120 standard is exciting to Creative because this will ensure interoperability with our future standard-based conferencing products."
Creative has been involved with Microsoft in developing future products for ActiveX, the conferencing platform that provides the basis for NetMeeting. In addition, Creative will soon introduce products supporting the T.120 standard created by the International Telecommunications Union (ITU) that enables data and application sharing between different conferencing systems.
"We are excited to be working with Creative Labs to integrate Microsoft NetMeeting with their outstanding conferencing products," said Blake Irving, group manager in the Internet platform and tools division at Microsoft. "Creative's support for Microsoft NetMeeting is important as videoconferencing and the Internet converge."
Creative Labs currently provides one of the premiere desktop videoconferencing systems in the industry. ShareVision PC3000 allows users to communicate via voice, color video at up to 15 frames per second and data sharing over a single regular phone line. The system features a high-speed fax/modem, a headset, application software, a color video camera, a voice/data compression card and a video capture and compression card. ShareVision software includes both whiteboarding and true application sharing, as well as file transfers and full-screen video snapshots.
