Problem:
When attempting to run the MS Windows 3.X AWE Control Panel, the following
error message is encountered:
Invalid MIDI Driver(SBAWE32.DRV). Check if installed!
Solution:
The above error message will appear under the following conditions:
- The Sound Blaster drivers for Windows are not correctly installed.
- MMSYSTEM.DLL is not presnt in the [Boot] section of the SYSTEM.INI.
To resolve the problem, do the following:
- Ensure that the Sound Blaster drivers are correctly installed in Windows
- Ensure that the following line is present in the [Boot] section of the
SYSTEM.INI:
drivers=mmsystem.dll
- If adding the above line in SYSTEM.INI does not solve the problem, the
driver file may be missing or corrupted. The user may need to re-install
Windows to obtain a fresh copy of MMSYSTEM.DLL.
Note: The Drivers line in the [Boot] section of the SYSTEM.INI may also appear
as:
drivers=mmsystem.dll msmixmgr.dll sndevnts.dll
