Problems With Connecting A MIDI Device To A Sound Blaster Card
No sound can be heard from an external MIDI device connected to
Sound Blaster MIDI interface/adapter:
- To connect an external MIDI device to Sound Blaster MIDI port,
make sure the MIDI adapter is installed securely and correctly.
The cable labeled "MIDI In" should be connected to the
port labeled "MIDI Out" on the MIDI instrument, and
the cable labeled "MIDI Out" should go be connected
to the port labeled "MIDI In".
- If Wave Blaster is used, make sure it is correctly connected
and firmly attached to the Wave Blaster pin connector found on
Sound Blaster.
- Ensure that the volume of the FM/MIDI channel in the mixer
is not set to zero.
- Go into Control Panel, and set MIDI Mapper to SB All MIDI.
- Go into Jukebox, and play one of the MIDI files located in
the PLAYMIDI subdirectory. The sound should come out from the
MIDI instrument.
- If a Wave Blaster is present, leave the MIDI Mapper set to
SB All MIDI. Otherwise, change MIDI Mapper to SB All FM.
- Launch either Cakewalk or MIDI Orchestrator Plus sequencing
software. Verify that the selected MIDI In Device is "SB
MIDI In", and the selected MIDI Out Device is "Microsoft
MIDI Mapper".
- Notes played on the MIDI instrument should come from the Sound
Blaster.
