Problems With Connecting A CR521, 523, 531, 563 CD-ROM Drive
To A Sound Blaster Card
Perform the following steps to troubleshoot problems with connecting a
Creative/Panasonic CD-ROM drive to a Sound Blaster card:
- Check that your Sound Blaster card has a Panasonic CD-ROM interface.
- Note the drive-access light on the CD-ROM drive. If the light
does not come on when the machine is powered up, check the power
connection going to the CD-ROM drive.
- Make sure the I/O address listed in the CONFIG.SYS reflects
the hardware settings of the sound card that the CD-ROM drive
connected to.
- If the drive is connected to a CT1810 CD ROM interface card,
make sure a /T:2 switch exists on the SBCD.SYS line in the CONFIG.SYS.
Remember that this switch must not be present if the CD-ROM drive
is connected to the Sound Blaster.
- Backup your original AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS files. Create
a custom AUTOEXEC.BAT and CONFIG.SYS containing only the Sound
Blaster and CD-ROM information.
- Check the connections of the CD-ROM ribbon cable to ensure
they are securely connected.
- Remove all non-essential cards from the system. If necessary,
change the base I/O address of the Sound Blaster.
- If the above items have been checked, then try with another
CD-ROM ribbon cable, and not a hard drive cable.
- If the CD-ROM drive does not work after replacing the cable,
the CD-ROM or the interface card may be defective.
