How to Identify a Product

As our product specification indexes are listed by both name and model number, it's important to be able to determine the model number of the card or CD-ROM drive that you have. One product name may apply to several different card or drive models.

If you have an internal PC card, the model number will be the letters CT followed by four digits - for example, CT1600. Typically the model number is found on the upper lefthand corner of the card, although it may also be found on a sticker on the back of the card. Several things need to be observed when looking for the model number of a card:

If the card is in your PC, be sure your PC is turned off and unplugged before you open it to look for the card. It may be necessary to take the card out of the slot - be careful!
The CTxxxx model number will be printed on the board itself, not on a chip. (There may be CTxxxx numbers on some of the chips, but that is not the card's model number.)
Some cards, most notably SB16 cards, may have one CTxxxx model number printed on the board, and another slightly different number on the sticker on the back. In this case, go with what the sticker says.
IMPORTANT: Sound cards manufactured after August '95 have an additional method to finding the model number. Take the number printed on the front of the board, in the upper lefthand corner (for example, CT2290). Look on the back of the board for a code stamped in black ink. The first two digits of this code will be the last two digits of the model number. For example, if the code begins with a 91, then the exact model number would be CT2291.

If you have one of our Modem Blaster cards, the model number is not located in the same manner as on the rest of our cards. For them, you'll have to go solely by the name of the card.

If you have an internal CD-ROM drive, the model number will be printed on a sticker on top of the drive. Do note that you may have to remove the drive from your computer in order to be able to read the sticker. Be careful when you do this, and be sure your PC is turned off and unplugged before you remove the drive!
