You may experience unpredictable problems in the game. If a file named OpenGL32.DLL is located in your games directory either rename it or delete it before testing this driver with your OpenGL application. If you have installed a non Microsoft version of OpenGL32.DLL in your /WINDOWS/SYSTEM/ directory you must obtain the Microsoft version of this driver for it to function correctly with OpenGL applications. -- This driver will work only with the RAGE PRO family of graphic chips in either PCI or AGP configurations. That includes the XPERT 98, XPERT@WORK, XPERT@PLAY, XPERT@PLAY 98, XPERT XL and ALL-IN-WONDER PRO. ** THIS SOFTWARE WILL NOT WORK WITH NON 3D RAGE PRO products** -- This driver will not work with Windows NT. -- This driver contains support for English only. -- This driver contains 3DNow! optimizations. -- This is a full Windows 95/98 driver set with an integrated OpenGL ICD component. This driver requires the Microsoft software OpenGL driver, OpenGL32.DLL, for proper operation. Please ensure this file is located in your /WINDOWS/SYSTEM/ directory. We strongly recommend that you use the OpenGL32.DLL file that has been included with your version of Windows 9X. If you are unsure if this file is installed on your system use Windows Explorer to browse your /WINDOWS/SYSTEM/ directory for confirmation that OpenGL32.DLL is located there. -- Microsoft's DirectX 6 runtime is required for use with this driver. To obtain DirectX 6 for users please point your browser to: http://www.microsoft.com/directx/download.asp -- OpenGL for Windows 95 is included in the Windows 95 OSR 2.X and Windows 98 releases. The libraries for Windows 95 are also available as the self-extracting archive file on the Microsoft ftp site at ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/softlib/mslfiles/opengl95.exe. This contains OpenGL32.DLL which is needed to run OpenGL programs under Windows 95. ===================================================== 2) Installation THIS DRIVER SET INCLUDES A NEW SETUP PROGRAM WHICH INSTALLS THE DISPLAY DRIVER WITHOUT INVOKING THE DISPLAY PROPERTIES SCREEN. THE NEW SETUP PROGRAM MAY TAKE A MINUTE OR MORE TO EVALUATE THE SYSTEM REGISTRY PRIOR TO INSTALLING THE DRIVER. Installation Instructions: 1) Start Windows 95/98. 2) Install DirectX 6 for users from http://www.microsoft.com/directx/download.asp 3) Confirm you do NOT have the ATI OpenGL Quake driver installed in either your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ directory or your games directory. 4) Confirm Microsoft's software version of OpenGL32.DLL is installed in your \WINDOWS\SYSTEM\ directory using the instructions above. 5) You must download the zipped driver and unzip it to a directory on your systems hard disk. For example C:\temp is a common directory used to initially save installation files into. 6) Close all programs, click the Start button. Click the Run menu item. Click the Browse button. Browse to the directory where you unzipped the installation files. 7) Select SETUP.EXE and press OK. 8) Follow the onscreen instructions. ===================================================== 3) To Uninstall Use Add/Remove Programs from your Windows 95/98 Control Panel to uninstall the ATI mach64 Display Drivers. ===================================================== 4) Windows 95/98 ATI RAGE enhanced display driver problems The Windows 95/98 ATI RAGE enhanced display driver is capable of using monitor timing data contained within Windows 95/98. This data is selected by configuring a monitor type at Windows 95/98 installation time, or via the Settings page of the display properties sheet. The Windows 95/98 ATI RAGE enhanced display driver may incorrectly interpret Windows 95/98 monitor timing data for some older monitors that require interlaced modes. This may cause some options to be disabled. A solution to this problem: select one of the (Standard monitor types) available via the Settings page of the Display Properties sheet. In Windows 95, display drivers can be installed via the Add New Hardware wizard (although the procedure detailed in section 3.0 is recommended). When the Windows 95/98 ATI RAGE enhanced display driver is installed via the Add New Hardware wizard, the Settings page is not installed into the ATI RAGE display adapter property sheet. In Windows 95, Rapid Resuming with the Virtual Desktop on causes loss of the Virtual Desktop. This is because Windows 95 reinitializes the video mode on an APM resume. No data loss occurs. The desktop size is reduced to the screen size. Windows 95 also reinitializes the video mode when windows is restarted on systems with Rapid Resume. Again, no data loss occurs, and the desktop size is reduced to the screen size. ===================================================== 5) Windows 95/98 property page problems When you adjust monitor settings in the Adjustment page of the Display Properties sheet, your monitor could become unreadable. If this occurs, press the ESC key to return to your previous monitor settings. ===================================================== 6) Windows 98 Issues If your machine has multiple video cards from multiple vendors, and you wish to use the Multiple Monitor feature of Windows 98, all installed video drivers must be Multi-monitor compatible. ATI's 5.2 and higher drivers are multi-monitor compatible. Check with your other card manufacturer's to determine what version of their drivers you need. The current driver supports DirectDraw or D3D applications on the secondary display. Only applications that are "Multi-Monitor Aware" will be able to use Direct Draw and Direct 3D functions on a secondary adapter. In multiple monitor configurations with both a PCI and an AGP card in the system Windows 98 will define the PCI card as primary and the AGP as secondary display. You may be able to get a System BIOS for your motherboard that can change this behavior. Contact the manufacturer of your System BIOS. The ATI Property Pages are accessible via the Display Properties, Settings, Advanced button. ===================================================== 7) OpenGL Specific Issues This driver release contains a full OpenGL ICD, which complies with the OpenGL 1.1 specification. Hardware acceleration is provided for most features contained in the specification at 16 bpp and 32 bpp. If you are configured for 8 bpp or 24 bpp OpenGL will not be accelerated. The following list identifies the features currently not supported: * Stencil test and stencil mask operations * Anti-aliased lines/polygons/points * Stippled lines and polygons * Accumulation buffer and its operations * Textures with border and border color, texture blend mode GL_BLEND * Texture clamp mode (Texture filtering modes require mipmaps) * Logic Operations * Color Mask * Polygon Offset * Multitexturing ===================================================== 8) Application Issues Xdemo This application requests source alpha blending on textures that do not contain an alpha component (e.g. 565textures). Monster Truck Madness and Twisted Metal 2 These applications do not always check driver capabilities and occasionally request not supported features such as blending mode MODULATEALPHA. =====================================================
